You are here:  DotNetNuke » Register a Domain Name
TIP - 10 years

When you are completing the order for your domain with Network Solutions there is an option which allows you to register a .com domain for 10 years and I recommend that you consider selecting this option. 1 year registration is approx $35 and 10 years registration is approx $150.

Register a Domain Name

There are many organisations selling domain names at attractive fees, however, I am a Network Solutions customer since the 90's and I recommend them for your domain name requirements. The only issue I have with them is that they don't facilitate registering .ie domains, which is a bit of a nusisance. Network Solutions are the original domain name company and once were the only organisation authorised to sell domain names. They now also offer other internet services for example website hosting and ecommerce solutions.

You could, of course, register your domain name with your DotNetNuke hosting provider and there is nothing wrong with that approach. I just prefer to keep domain names seperate as it allows you to move provider or have different providers for different domains.

The following notes show you how to register a domain name with Network Solutions and point your domain at your DotNetNuke Hosting Provders Name Servers:

Register the Domain Name

1. Double click Internet Explorer and type in www.netsol.com in the address bar

2. Select Domain Names on the main menu bar, then select Domain Name Registration

3. Enter the domain name you want to register, the .com and .net extensions will be selected by default. If you wish to search for .eu or .co.uk then click the extension name to select them.

4. Click the Search button

If your domain name is available, .com & .net will automatically be selected, click .net to deselect it if you don't want a .net extension. Also consider selecting the .eu extension if you operate within the European Union and any other country specific extension if relevant to you business.

When you are happy with your choices, click the Add Domains to Order button, ignore any web hosting or other offers by clicking on the continue button and then follow the instructions to pay for the domain and setup an account.

Point your Domain Name at your DotNetNuke Hosting Providers Name Servers

Before you move the Name Servers for your domain ensure you have setup an account with your DotNetNuke Hosting Provider.  Do not change the Name Servers on your Domain unless you are absolutely sure this is what is required. Changing Name Servers incorrectly will cause loss of service to existing web services like websites and email.

1. Login to your Account Manager

2. Select Domain Names, select your domain name
